Full Day-by-Day Itinerary
Depart Nairobi for the drive south to Amboseli National Park (roughly 225-240 km, 4-5 hours), skirting the base of Mount Kilimanjaro along the way. Check in at Elerai Camp on the reserve's eastern border, then head straight out for an evening game drive across Amboseli's plains - home to some of Africa's largest elephant herds. Overnight on a full-board basis.
A full day of morning and afternoon game drives across Amboseli National Park, with time to explore the swamps, open plains and elephant-viewing hotspots the park is famous for - all set against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day. Overnight on a full-board basis.
A final morning game drive in Amboseli, then check out and depart for the road transfer back to Nairobi.
Best Time to Visit
July - October and January - February for the clearest game viewing and Mount Kilimanjaro views
High Season - Jun-Oct & Jan-Feb
Dry weather makes for the clearest game viewing, with animals gathering at rivers and waterholes. Masai Mara river crossings peak July-October. Expect busier parks and the highest rates of the year.
Low Season - Mar-May & Nov
The "green season" brings lush scenery, dramatic skies and newborn wildlife, with far fewer visitors and the lowest accommodation rates. Expect afternoon showers, muddier roads and a handful of camps closed for maintenance.
What to Expect
A short, focused circuit built entirely around one destination:
Nairobi is your arrival and departure point for the road transfers to and from Amboseli.
Amboseli National Park is famous above all for its elephants - large, habituated herds that are among the easiest in Africa to observe up close - set against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear mornings, plus swamps that draw hippo, buffalo and abundant birdlife.
