A scenic light-aircraft flight from Nairobi direct to the Masai Mara, timed to arrive in time for an afternoon game drive near the river crossing points, where the migration herds gather in their hundreds of thousands. Overnight on a full-board basis.
A full day based at the Mara River, with your guide reading herd movements and crocodile activity to position for a crossing. Picnic breakfast and lunch out in the field. Overnight on a full-board basis.
A full day tracking the migration across the reserve's plains, with an optional sunrise hot air balloon safari for a bird's-eye view of the herds. Overnight on a full-board basis.
A full day of game drives focused on the Mara's resident predators - lion, leopard and cheetah - who follow the migration for an easy meal, plus an optional Maasai village visit. Overnight on a full-board basis.
A final morning at the river crossing points, then fly back to Nairobi.
Best Time to Visit
July - October only - built specifically around the Great Migration river crossings
High Season - Jun-Oct & Jan-Feb
Dry weather makes for the clearest game viewing, with animals gathering at rivers and waterholes. Masai Mara river crossings peak July-October. Expect busier parks and the highest rates of the year.
Low Season - Mar-May & Nov
The "green season" brings lush scenery, dramatic skies and newborn wildlife, with far fewer visitors and the lowest accommodation rates. Expect afternoon showers, muddier roads and a handful of camps closed for maintenance.
What to Expect
From around July to October, over two million wildebeest and zebra cross from Tanzania's Serengeti into Kenya's Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing - and back again - in one of the natural world's greatest spectacles. This safari is scheduled and routed specifically around that window, with extra time and flexibility built in at the river to wait for a crossing rather than rushing past.
